It is my firm committment to only offer open-pollinated, and in many cases heirloom vegetable varieties. We are losing our plant food diversity around the world at an alarming rate. Large companies are swallowing up small companies. Thus further limiting the varieties available for one's own ability to save their own seeds, and having to purchase these companies hybrid seeds every year, at the prices they set, of varieties they choose. I do not want fruit 'designed' to ship better, or stay firm on the supermarket shelf longer. I believe the trade off to these is inferior flavor. There's a reason so many heirloom varieties- seeds being grown & handed down through generations, have survived. They taste, cook, & grow well enough to be a 'part of the family'. And I have to admit- I love the unusual names. Plants are available in 3 1/2" pots, and some will be in 5" or gallons. |
